He was most definitely a yeller! He was much more tough on everyone with the flat work. Which I can totally understand. These are some of the top riders in our area, on horses that cost nearly a quarter of a million (maybe more). So for the riders and the horses to struggle with simple downward transitions or trot poles, is a bit astonishing. However, he was much more forgiving over fences. Especially when they started to get really big. Most normal folks don't jump that big, that often... so it's understandable when they lose their nerve a bit!
Life seems mighty precious, when there's less of it to waste.
