Miniature horse jumping

How is the best way to teach a miniature horse to jump beside you with you not jumping?
The horse I worked with this week would only jump if I jumped over the jump with him. We went to a show and he refused a jump that was too high for my to run and jump with him and we got eliminated. What should I do? Otherwise if I go beside the jump he does to or takes out the jump support. Thanks!

Hmm...maybe pretend you're going to jump with him (like look like you're about to jump with him) but then just let him go over it? :) Kinda like tricking him, LOL!

I tried that at the show and he made a refusal, I thought that might work. :-/ hm.

Know nothing about minis...but maybe...free jump him in a round pen?

My mini jumps 2'6. Train her like you would any other horse, don't push them because they will do what you want them to do.

The best way is to ground drive them. Grab a lunge line and start off from scratch. Teach him everything as tho you are going to get on turning, decreasing and increasing paces etc.

I swear I'm the mini jumping guru. I had my pony down to cantering by voice command :)
