i know this is super late but just another horse usually refuses to jump the vertical line i jump (crossrail to barrels) until my trainers friend jumped in..she said that coming into the first jump collect before your horse takes off and really hold your outside rein. Even though after a jump you should stay in two point for a few strides, give a strong half-halt. Sit real tall and count your strides, I think it helps o count out loud-land, one, two and so on, once you jump the vertical do the same,strong half-halt then sit tall.
