    Riding the "EquiDome"!!

The big Gold Coast horse show is coming up in Feb. I want to ride it REALLY bad. However, here's my issue:
The jumpers take place within the "Equidome" which is an indoor/enclosed type arena with bright lights, bleachers, loud speakers, and lots of other things to spook at! My guy is pretty sensitive to begin with, and we've come quite a long way with our training in regards to his spooking issues. I know for a fact that he's never been in an environment like that. (And truth be told) I am a little worried about my pride if I get tossed at such an elite show.
So here I am... looking for words of wisdom from my fellow equestrian peers! Has anyone ever ridden a show like that? Or have any ideas how to maybe train for such an environment??

Try riding with a radio on close by. Tr having a few of your friends sit around the arena and cheer and such. Try riding him in public. Pretty much just get him out as much as possible.

I've been trying to convince my trainer to trailer him to different places (nearby barns and training facilities) so that I can ride around in new venues. But I don't own a trailer so i'm kinda' at her mercy with taking him off the property. But that's a good idea. Maybe have someone speak into a megaphone while i'm jumping around!

Sounds good, even if it seems kinda silly. What matters is that you do whatever you can to prepare your horse. Remember to start introductions to this stuff ON THE GROUND first though, that way you can control the situation more safely and comfortably before you move to the saddle.

Maybe they have a warm up you can do in the Equidome. Only been there for the ETI Nationals and only as a spectator. Lots of folks I know have ridden in there, and none seem to have an issue with it. Folks are pretty careful about to much noise in there, and all shows have the loud speakers. I think you'll do fine.,

Doing it all from the ground first... GOOD IDEA! Haha!

I think his biggest issue will be the lighting. When lighting shifts and changes the dimensions of the jumps, then he tends to question me. We've been working with "fuzzies" on the noseband and near the eyes... which seems to help a bit with that.

Sounds odd with the Fuzzies... but I get the concept to interrupt his vision and get him used to looking to you for guidance. I would use black fuzzies, material like that one fake feather stuff you see on little girl tiaras and such, really fluffy and fine, that way it more resembles shadows... just an idea.

Yep. If you see my avatar pic... it was the first day we used fuzzies... and I chose the black ones! The brush box always seemed to be a discussion, but that particular time I pushed him into the bit, and just got him to focus on what I was asking of him. He politely jumped right over it.
Okay, so we're agreed on the fuzzies. And some "in hand" work with different noises and people standing around.
    Thanks, Honeysuga!
