I am by no means an expert on showing, but I think a colored show shirt is okay. They are usually pale pastel colors and don't pop out too much anyways. If you can wear a polo at a jumper show, then a lilac show shirt will probably be just fine. ;)

Okay, have you seen the pink? It's terrible! Haha, it's sooo bright.

I got a coat that works great as a show coat at the salvation army, I spend like $4 on it. I wasn't sure if it was going to work but at the price I figured what the heck right. I brought it to my trainer who said it looked just like an expensive show coat. Maybe I just got lucky, but it's worth a shot if you don't object to shopping there (I objected for a while until my friend dragged me along one day)

For jumpers, use the white square pad.

If you ever do a classic, you will need a white shirt so that is something to consider if you can't decide between white and lilac. If you are buying a coat, get a navy one. It never goes out of style.

Okay, maybe I will just get a white one as I want to get to the Olympics someday, so I want to do Classics in the next year or 2, so I might as well get it right.

At A shows always have a white shirt under your jacket or a very not eye catching color - no pinks or yellows. A pale blue or purple but try to stick with white. You do have to wear jackets on the main classes ( weekend ones usually) schooling classes a white or black polo is fine. But be really with a jacket on the main showing days.

White square saddle pad, your not in the hunters so don't wear a fitted pad.

Don't get your horse all color coordinated with saddle pad, polos, fly bonnet exc. Less is more and keep it simple. I would suggest showing in boots/ what you usually ride in at home but if you ride in polos keep them a black or dark color, white looks nice until they get dirty. Don't wear a big frilly fly Bonnet and if you use earplugs I would suggest buying a custom fit or a good one without the string that goes around the throat latch.

Always wear a belt, hair up neatly under your helmet, prepaid to ride in gloves on the big show days . It makes the whole picture look better with a jacket

The pictures of the harvest show seem to clearly be a classic, so yes then you need a jacket. If you are doing straight jumpers, ie anything but classics, derbies and prix classes you do not have to wear a jacket. Also, if you are going to go to an A circuit show and wear a jacket please make sure it fits perfectly. There aren't very many jackets that A circuit worthy for $100 unless you are buying used. If you aren't doing the hunters, classics, derbies or prix classics I wouldn't waste $100 on a coat.

I went to an A show this spring and showed in a long sleeved shirt and a quilted vest.

Oh, but I agree with everyone else on the square white saddle pad. I don't consider anything with an animal print "conservative". =)

The point is to have fun though, so be comfortable and enjoy yourself!

Thanks! I will be looking at a tack swap early november as I won't be able to show this year, but I will be next year! I already have black gloves, hairnet, tall boots, and I will be getting a fly bonnet soon. :)

    Also, are protective boots allowed?

For an Arabian, what should I do with her mane? I don't want to pull it, so could I still braid it?
