Tell me all about jumpers!

All I've ever done was hunters (small, non rated) as a kid and then switched to eventing. I LOVE eventing. But ever since a fall with my horse about 6 years ago, XC scares me. I no longer ride that horse as the fall required him to be retired from jumping. I now have a 6 year old OTTB that I 've had for 3 years. Love him to death. Done every bit of his training. He's a great horse and has been to a few events with me. He is awesome in the show jumping phase. And pretty good XC but due to my fear of XC jumps over 2'6" and him still being green to XC jumps, I'm afraid I'll end up causing more problems than good for him! I also feel like he enjoys show jumping more than XC. So I'm considering switching to jumpers, at least part time. I still want to event. Never done jumpers before in my life so I know nothing about it! There's a AA show coming up in April that I would like to take him to. Whats with the tables, and rules and such? Can someone link me a rulebook? Any tips/rules/information you have would be greatly appreciated!

I can't advise you I'm afraid - am only familiar with the jumping rules in France!
However is that you in your avatar? It's a fabulous photo!!!
Best of luck with it - your horse sounds like a real treasure!

Scroll down a couple posts and you'll get to where I give a brief explanation of the more popular tables. Scroll down a little more and there's a link to the USEF website!

Tell me about Jumpers! I ride hunters and am clueless

Let me know if you have any more questions! I'm a hunter at heart but have been doing jumpers for a while.

Ok thanks! Both the jumper classes I'm entering just say table II. What does this mean in terms of a jump off? Is there one? Also how does the I guess point system work if there is one? Is it through USEF? And applies to any USEF rated show? I'm just doing a 2'9 jumper class and the thoroughbred hunter class. I think these were in the unrated category if that matters.

What section of table 2? Without knowing what section you won't know how to do the jump off. Does it say 'power and speed' or 'timed first jump off' or anything? If it doesn't say more I would call the show manager and ask.

What do you mean by point system? Like a year end award system? For division champion?
