I was out eventing on the weekend at RMH and I realized that we need to do more show jumping practice on full courses. We normally practice at home over a couple of fences only. I would rather not need to go to the gold level Calgary show jumping events if there are alternatives out there. Does anyone know of any less formal jumping competitions over the next few weekends in the Calgary area? Also I heard that it is possible to get show jumping lessons from some top riders during the summer while they are here for the Spruce Meadows competitions. Does anyone know how to find out about those and get access to them?
Paramount Equestrian runs unrated shows, I've been to a couple and they are decent, and offer up to 1.20m which is nice. They actually have one running tomorrow and Sunday. Short notice but late fee is only $25. That is the only one I know offhand that is coming up.
As for lessons from the big names, I would think you'd have to contact them directly and make plans with them. Most would probably be pretty busy away from home and it's hard to say whether they'd be willing to just pick up a few lessons here and there out of the blue, but it never hurts to ask!
You have the same frustration we all have for all those of us who live around Calgary. Sunrise meadows also runs show schooling shows, but I dont know what their schedule is. Take a look at their website.
Hi!! Eversfield Equestrian runs one day events, Horse in Hand Ranches offers schooling days and Spruce Meadows over the winter offers schooling nights. As for getting lessons from trainers it depends on who it is, but I agree contacting them directly is best.
