Money. Can barely afford lessons. Luckily I get one lesson a week. I have the confidence and the determination to move up but you can only go so far with a tiny budget and lesson horses.

Beau's ability and confidence mainly. I have no problem moving up, and I've jumped him up to 3' maybe three jumps total just for fun. We are consistently schooling 2' though and working on getting a slower, calm, steady approach to fences. (:

Sadly, my mare and I were on quite the roll this year. We were second in our division, we had a great chemistry going at home and in the show ring, and we were moving up in fence height and confidence in our lessons. All it took was one hack of a farrier to screw it all up. We have missed the last three horse shows of the season and my horse has been lame and recovering for the last 2+ months. She still isn't 100% so I can't ride her for at least another 2 weeks. I haven't been taking lessons because my trainers school horses are all over worked as it is but I will be taking my first lesson in a while tomorrow.

My horse and I will have to spend the winter playing catch up instead of being where we should be and progressing. All because of one moron's carelessness.

Riding green horses. I've always, always ridden them, simply because that's what I like. It's not the best way to learn to jump - although, I can get on just about any horse in the world and be fine without getting upset or scared - but being on well-behaved horses is just too boring. ;)

I keep myself from moving up because I am a coward (sometimes ) and I'm not that great of a rider. My horse, on the other hand, is fabulous. With a trainer I am braver, but I haven't had lessons in a couple of months.
