Hello everyone! I am fairly new here and never introduced myself. I will remain by my username for personal reasons, but as in my title, I ride and own horses in the lovely and tropical state of HI.
I have been riding horses for over 8 years now, but I only really got into it about 3 1/2 years ago when I switched over to english. I compete in hunters and jumpers at 2'6 for now, but I school 3'+ in lessons.
I own two Quarter horses named Snips and Studley- pics at the bottom. Snips will be 26 this year and Studley just turned 14, but wasn't really trained until he was about 9… so don't let his teen years fool you- he plays green all the time (he is my current mount, Snips is retired)!
I train horsemanship and work with horses around our barn, I apprentice under a professional Parelli trainer and have been for about 4 years now. Soon I hope to move onto another apprenticeship that will allow me to help place therapy horses into certain therapeutic jobs. I've trained, along with my trainers, my own two horses from equally hard pasts.
Snips was abused for probably 15 years of his life and Studley was a wild stallion in the mountains until he was gelded at 5 and put through his own mental torture. He went through and scared off numerous trainers and flunked out of dressage training after throwing a rider and ending her career in the military.
I hope to one day spend my days working with horses on the ground and helping people like myself build a better relationship with their horses, since at one time I was so scared I thought of selling them.
Pics below - Snips (registered AQHA as Catch the Jet) is the first horse and Studley (show name; Exclusive) is the second one
