Question Family horse camp?

Hello Everyone,

I recently "rediscovered" my love for horses thanks to one of my daughters. My wife and I used to trail ride (rentals) when we were younger. We would very much like to adopt/save neglected horses for our family to trail ride and learn with.

Problem is, we don't know basic horse care. I've done some research and understand prices for farriers, vets, upkeep, etc. I've looked at a few online "schools" in horse care but would like to take a hands-on approach.

Does anyone know of a reputable "family" horse camp that teaches care and basic riding skills for a whole family (2 adults and 2 kids)? We have stables in our area but most of the owners don't want to invest the time to teach horse care.

Thanks in advance for all the advice!

welcome. I do not know of any family horse camps. That is not to say that something similar does not exist. Perhaps an equestrian vacation would be a good place to start. (probably wouldn't go into the detail you want, though.) I think it's great that you want to get into it as a family. Good luck.

What about volunteering at a horse rescue? I'm sure they could use the extra help and some would be more than happy to help..

that sounds like a great idea!

If you want a stable friendship, get a horse.

If you find a family horse camp, let me know... I would love to go with my child and possibly our horse :) If not, riding another horse always makes you a better rider so bring on the lesson horses.....
