A frigid hello from Ohio!

Hi all!

Yet another newbie here. :) I'm fleeing from one forum's nastiness in hopes of finding a friendly place to talk horses!

So, about me....

I'm 22 and living in Columbus, Ohio. I've been a horse lover for as long as I can remember, but I've only been riding for about 9 years, and only "seriously" within the past year. When I was 15 until I was about 18, I leased a Tennessee Walking Horse mare, who I basically learned to ride on. All we did was hack around on trails, but I have great memories with that girl. After about a 3 year break from horses entirely, I had the opportunity to buy her last spring and began making payments to her owners, but unfortunately halfway through the purchase she began showing some really odd signs that the vet could not figure out. She'd completely lose the use of her front left leg without having been worked or anything. She was pretty stumbly....we thought maybe EPM, but everyone I've spoken to, including the vet, have said it wasn't that. In any case, it wasn't something I could justify getting myself into at the time and I had to discontinue buying her. :(

I've bounced around a few barns over the course of the year, trying to find a place where I can fit in and learn what I want (dressage, jumping, and/or cross country), which has prooved easier said than done! I've met some wonderful friends and met some real crazies at the same time, lol. Thankfully, it seems like I've finally found a good barn and I'm currently taking jumping lessons on a 17h BelgianX named Diesel.

I'm horseless, but that may very well change SOON.... My trainer told me about a Standardbred they were supposed to get in. I guess the story on him is his owner was in a car wreck and is now in a coma, so he desperately needs a home. He's been used as his owner's husband's trail horse and is a really sweet guy, just needs to be taught a bit more, like how to canter under saddle. The barn owner where I ride is offering him to me for free if I board with her for 6mo, so if he passes a vet check, I'll more than likely find myself with a horse finally. :) Of course, I haven't actually seen him yet due to the nasty snowy weather here in Ohio at the moment! But from what my trainer has been telling me, he's a really sweet, great guy. So we shall see..... :)

Anyway, other than horses..... I'm a total animal lover and welfare activist. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a bunny. I'm into music, art, photography, tattoos, piercings, and hair dye! I currently have pink hair. :) Yes, you read right....I have pink hair. I'm also a psychology major. Someday I would love to do therapeutic work with horses and children. I'm fascinated by the organization EAGALA!

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hey there!! Sorry you've been jumping around so much , but that's a great way to learn right? I was in the same boat sort of. You should really like it here, there's so many nice people and we try really hard to keep it pleasant and fun. If you have any questions feel free to ask and ***fingers crossed**** for your possible future horse! Welcome :)
