I'm a returning user who's not been around for a few years due to busy life, so I figure I'll post a new welcome and an update!
I'm Kat, I'm 22 years old and I live outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I go to school at our local community college and will graduate in a year with a Zoo Keeping Technology Associates degree emphasizing on hoofstock and big cats.
This upcoming fall I'll be interning at Colorado Springs' zoo, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo working with the African hoofstock, before moving on to working with the big cats at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and finally, Tampa, FL's Big Cat Rescue.
I've been around horses since I was 11, in 2001. I ride both Western and English and dabble in jumping from time to time. All the horses under my profile are my riding instructors, but I have permission to call them *mine*.
I've worked at various barns; a natural horsemanship western barn and a Saddlebred Saddleseat training barn to name a couple.
I am currently employed by my riding instructor. I help train the horses she comes into owning, all various rescue/abandoned horses, as well as help teach therapuetic riding lessons to Autistic kids, as well as various other mental and physical disabled kids. Working with horses and special education kids is a passion of mine, so I try and do as much as I can. As of this summer I will also be working for one of the local school districts as a paraprofessional working with sped kids on the school buses.
I hope to reconnect with the horseforum community! I've missed everyone, but life just got in the way!
