Luckily, I started dating a really wonderful girl named Tara this past October and her mom is really into horses and has three. Her riding horse, Amber, has Cushings disease and is not able to be ridden anymore. She also has Fancy, a 5 year old who is still being trained to understand rein commands but is saddle-broke, and Champ, Amber's colt who just turned three and just started training Friday. I got to help!
I was so excited! I've always loved horses, and it was really neat to help Champ take his first baby steps in training. I didn't do much-- mostly just fed him carrots, but she was teaching him to move forward when touched just behind his front legs. She also taught him some simple "plow reining," and put a strap around his belly so he could get used to the feel of it.
I will try and get pics of Champ and Fancy today, but they are on my phone, sadly and I'm not sure I can send them to myself via email.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello again. I am excited to learn more about horses and caring for them.
