    Smile Hello everyone!

Hi! I'm new here, just wanted to say that although I do not own one (yet) that horses are and always have been my favorite animal. My daughter is really getting into them now and I'm tempted to start seriously looking into purchasing/leasing/boarding one some place soon. I'm waiting to see if she stays interested - maybe 1 more year of lessons 1st. Also I came on this site because just through reading some of the threads and posts on this site I am hoping to get an education here because my knowledge of the proper care of horses is limited, I wanted to learn as much as I can before we get one. Looking forward to chatting with everybody.

Welcome from Ohio. There is alot of horse knowledge amoung the
People here. So don't be shy about asking any questions.

You can look on petfinder.com for horses if you might want to rescue one
In your area. (it is not only about dogs and cats. Lol)

Another good idea is to go visit some of the local stables. They might know of a good horse for a beginning rider.

Hello and welcome! I think riding lessons for your daughter is a great way to get into it. I got my first horse through my riding instructor. My mom mentioned to her that in about a year we would start looking for a horse, but within a week she pointed us to a wonderful woman who was sort of on the fence about selling Scooter, but found us to be a great fit together. He was dead broke and very laid back and I was still somewhat of a beginner. It all turned out perfectly! So watch out, it may happen sooner than you think ;) haha! When the time is right, it will all work out.

Best of luck in your journey. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    Rustic Wildfire,
I hope you are right! I would love to get a horse (or 2) sooner than later, but like I said I need more know-how first, its been years since I've had any contact with horses. Probably we'll start with leasing a horse or we'll adopt one here locally. We know of a place that will only adopt them out if you come visit, groom and ride them for atleast 6 months to make sure they are a fit and that you are fit enough for them, that is what we are thinking of to start out. I think the biggest mistake one can make is jumping into things too quickly, only the horse suffers from this mistake and that's not fair. Thank you for your advice.
