My twin sister (Missaddie) is already a member here and I figured that I would join as well, so that I could learn more about horses. My sister has been taking/teaching lessons for years, but it has taken me awhile to gain enough confidence to ride faster than a walk
. In the past couple of years my confidence has improved, but there is still a long way to go.
Although we own three horses my personal purchase was a highly energetic hackney pony, whom I named Java. Thankfully we also have a very well-natured Quarter Horse that helps build my confidence while my sister works the energy off of Java.
When Java first arrived he came with the name 'Gizmo'. The only thing I could think about when I heard that name was the movie Gremlins, so that had to change! I don't know how we came up with Java but...
Before Java, my previous horse was a 35-year-old Tennessee Walker. Needless to say, even though he had energy for his age, it is no where near the amount that Java has. Java is six years old and 13.2 hands. Even though he's small he absolutely thinks otherwise. He thinks he is a big, strong fellow and tries to boss around the other horses, but our 16.3 hand thoroughbred puts him in his place (relatively nicely). Sometimes I feel as if I am watching a mother with her child. The way she handles him shows such a great amount of patience. They absolutely adore each other! I don't think Java would be the same without her.
Java had very little experience under saddle when I bought him but he is improving everyday! He seems to have a knack for jumping, so we are slowly working with him on that. He has had some training under harness, but we don't work on that quite as much.
Well I better stop now...Thank you for reading my intro. I hope to see everyone, and their horses, in the forum!
And no introduction thread would be complete without pictures of horses! Without further ado...
First up is Addie, my sister's Thoroughbred. She has just finished recovering from a shoulder injury and is getting her spirit back!
Next is Pepsi, an American Quarter Horse:
And last, but definitely not least is Java!
(Pardon the clothes and his scruffy appearance, it was a really wet, flooded day and everyone looked a bit soggy!)
And Java and his main gal:
