Hello from France

Hi everyone, I am so looking forward to talking to and learning from you all. I was recommended here by Farleyv, whom I know through another animal site we both visit.
I live in Normandy, in northern France, with my three Shetland ponies, 8 cats, a dog and a goat, all of which keep me pretty busy. I rode all my life (mostly English style) until 8 years ago, when health problems forced me to stop. Last year I had a knee replacement and I hoped that might help. Now I have just found a Western style trainer who has taken me on and swears he can get me back into the saddle. Well, I had my first session with him this week, and it was wonderful to be up on a horse again after so long. I am going to take things gently and go back to first principles since I have not ridden Western for 23 years, and I have much to learn and relearn. So I shall be reading everything you guys write and I am sure I shall have lots of questions over the coming months. It is so exciting.

Howdy from Texas! Glad you're here. Sounds like you have found the 'horse bug' again, hope you reclaim the joy of riding.

Hey there, I'm new too. :)

Have you looked into comfort attachments for your stirrups? There are several varieties available nowadays to lessen that awful knee and ankle torque.

Howdy from Texas and bonjour from a French teacher I love Normandy, stayed by the village Glos, close to Lisieux one summer for several weeks.

Thank you all for your welcome. And for the tips that are already coming. Maybe I should say that in fact I am English by origin, though I have probably lived abroad more than in my country of birth. I have cousins in France and have spent a lot of time here, and since the age of 15 or so I have wanted to live here. So I chose it as my adopted country to retire to, and have not regretted it.
