Hello from Minnesota!

Hi everyone!

I just now joined and am looking forward to meeting you all. I hope to find some answers regarding saddle fit, but I wanted to introduce myself first.

I am 64 years old...YIKES! I know...I don't like the sound of that! I am married and have 4 grand kids. I have had horses almost my whole life, first getting a horse at 16. I was without horses for 15 years after I got married, then got back into them at age 35. But, now I am a timid rider, to say the least.

Anyway, I now have Rosie, who is a 15 year old AQHA mare, and Jedi, who is a grade pony gelding, 12.2 hands. I think Jedi could possibly be a Hackney Pony and Arab cross.

Welcome from PA. I was just to a saddle fitting seminar yesterday. It seems to be a topic at most Equine events.

Hi, pony gal.

I haven't been to any saddle fitting seminars, but I've sure seen enough videos on it. I had a saddle fitter do a clinic near me quite a few years ago, and it worked out great. I bought a used Bona Allen saddle for Rosie according to the saddle fitters guidelines, and it fits her great!

The problem is the pony, Jedi. He's pretty round right now and I have him losing weight, but it's tough to find a saddle that I would fit into, plus wouldn't be too big for him.

I have been reading the topics on the tack forum on here, and I may post question there on this problem.

Do you have friends that may have something that would fit him? If he's loosing weight, it may be a bad time to buy a saddle until you get his weight were you want it.

Whereabouts in Minnesota are you located?

A woman needs two animals - the horse of her dreams and a jackass to pay for it.

Welcome to the forum from a Twin Cities'er :)

The love for a horse is just as complicated as the love for another human being...If you never love a horse, you will never understand.

Hi, all!

pony gal, actually, I did buy a saddle last year. I did templates of his back and got a Big Horn synthetic saddle, that should have fit great. BUT, I didn't buy it till months after I did the templates. Dumb. So, if he loses weight back down to where he was when I did the templates, the saddle should fit.

The problem is, it's very hard to get that weight off, and now I'm thinking I need to look for a wider saddle. In the end, maybe it would be better to see if he loses enough weight that THIS saddle will fit. I'm just getting a bit impatient, I think. With the weather here being SO nice so early.

IquitosARG10, I am in northern MN....Hibbing. I live about 3 miles out of the actual town.
