Hi there, I live in the southeast in the US. I am so happy to see a horse-owner community discussion board. I have never personally owned a horse, but my mother did many many years ago and rode as well. I have been around them in my younger years.

I want to say I am very happy to see veteran horse owners caution potential first time horse owners to make certain that is the pet they want and have the preparedness to know how to care for a horse, know a horses personality and quirks, and the unexpected expense in owning a horse not to mention that they need attention - EVERY DAY. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I have known many people over my life who thought they wanted to buy their teenagers a horse for a birthday gift, or a spouse, or a new hobby in life - only to either sell the poor horse or give the horse away a year or so later because they did NOT know anything about horses or care or even about themselves. It is sad.

I myself, have rescued, fostered, adopted, and volunteered with racing Greyhounds for over 20 years. I am absolutely in love with this breed. I will never be without at LEAST two Greyhounds. Moreover, when I first considered them in the early 90s, I researched, studied, went to meet and greets to see them, and got to know folks who had them. After a couple of years, I realized that I was meant for them and they were meant for me. Now, I help rehome them, go to events all over, and love them all the time. They are not like any other dog, they have their own ways, personalities, and so forth. They can tolerate certain types of medicine, anesthesia, and so forth. And when I counsel folks about adopting one, I really try to make people see if this is the breed for them.

sorry, did not mean to go off on a tangent. I would absolutely love to own a horse and love life with that baby; but I do not have the space, time, or money to be able to give him or her the life and love and attention they deserve or need. Well, I do have the love. LOL

On a more positive note, when it is right, I love to see when horses choose the humans they think will spoil them and keep them smiling.
Anyway, I would love to come here from time to time and see your lovely galleries and hear your stories and learn about these awesome animals.

Take care and God Bless,

Bella
