I am new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself.
I live in Britain's most northerly outpost, Shetland - a small group of islands mid-way between Norway, Faroe and the Orkneys off the tip of northern Scotland.
Shetland is famous for its Shetland ponies amongst other things. I have a stud of about 10 breeding mares and the most gorgeous stallion - Thordale Carriage Driving Centre
We have about 40 horses and ponies in total. Amongst other things, we train our ponies to harness but have Icelandic horses for riding too. We also have a rescued French meat-farm pony who is rather difficult to work with but we are getting there eventually!
I live on a traditional Shetland croft in the middle of nowhere, my nearest neighbour is 1/2 a mile away.
We believe in keeping all our animals in the most natural of environments and also having animals that suit our extreme weather and can thrive here - hence the Shetland ponies and Icelandic horses.
I am also a professional photographer and work hard at promoting the Shetland pony in its natural environment! I make films and put them up on YouTube - they are predominantly photographic slideshows set to traditional Shetland tunes, one of which was very popular and has been made into a postcard booklet too!
