    Moving to Upper Michigan

    Hello,

New. I'm moving from the Fox Valley area in WI to Iron Mountain area. Hubby took a promotion up there and we are really excited to finally have a farm.

Right now I have 2 saddlebreds. I've been involved/showed saddlebreds on and off for the last 16 years.

Anyone else from the UP? I'd love vet, farrier, feed mill recommendations. Also any showing or 4-H info for the area. My kids are 10, 5 and 2.

And...if anyone knows of any dog clubs. I also have a Doberman that shows and I like going to training classes.

Hey, I hope it isn't too late to say hello!

I hope you love it up here! Fox Valley area is near Appleton, right? The UP is definitely very different than that area (been there a few times), but in a good way! The snow levels actually won't be much different than what you are used to in WI, thankfully.

I wish I could provide any recommendations for the Iron Mountain area. I'm closer to Escanaba, though.

I will let you know that the 4H groups in the UP are incredibly active. The Escanaba State Fair, for example, is phenomenal with huge 4H turnout. Michigan actually has no other state fair, so what happens in Esky is the big event for the state!

Hi thanks! I was starting to think no one had internet up there! I went up for the first time this past weekend. Definitely need a different cell provider.

Appleton is part of the Fox Valley. I can't wait to get away. It's too busy and people aren't as friendly.

The horses won't come up until next summer probably. We are supposed to move in a month.

Friendly people is definitely one thing the UP has. When I first moved here, I expected the locals to be rather cold to a new person. It was the complete opposite! Everyone has been incredibly warm and welcoming.
