Hi, I'm Sarah! I registered yesterday but I was so busy making a page for my horse and asking critique on my riding that I hadn't discovered this section yet.

So, I registered here because it looks so much fun to me to see how people interact with horses all over the world. It's also a way to exercise my English a little bit. I'm on a Dutch forum as well, which is almost as elaborate as this one, but it's only about people and horses from the Netherlands and Flanders.

I'll now tell a bit about myself: I'm 19 years old and I'm in my first year of higher education. I study Applied Languages Spanish-English-Dutch, but I haven't graduated yet so my English is not perfect and my Spanish definitely isn't. If there are people here who speak Spanish or French, you can always send me messages in that language. I like to practice (I learned some French in high school and I don't like it that I'm now totally mixing it up with Spanish).

I've been riding horses since I was 10, mostly in riding schools. I've never had a horse of my own and I think I should be a better rider than I am after 9 years. But I've accepted that I just don't have the talent :-p. I started leasing a horse from the riding school last summer, Libella, and I ride competitions on beginner level with her. We are apparently good enough to be selected for the provincial tournament (there is no national for beginners) for the second time now (first time in the summer season, now for the winter season), although lately I sometimes wonder how I did that :-p.

I'm still dreaming about having a horse of my own, not just for competitions (I don't really care so much about that, although it's fun), but for building up a friendship with him/her. I want do do some natural horsemanship stuff, barebackriding, ... just having fun.

So I don't have a horse (yet) but I do have some other farm animals: 7 rabbits, a cat, 2 ducks, 1 chicken, 1 cock (who is very aggressive) and a goose. The cat and the chicken are my favourites. The rabbits are also very cute but they prefer to be left alone. And the ducks and goose are very funny to watch, but they're actually my mother's.

Besides animals, I also like music, travelling, partying, having fun with friends,... I like most styles of music, from the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel to heavy metal. Only things I don't like are dubstep, most Flemish songs and Justin Bieber:-p. My favourite band is Flogging Molly (Irish-American folkrock).
I've always loved travelling, but lately I don't go abroad very often and never for a long time, because of Libella and the animals at home. When I was younger I went with my parents to France, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Switzerland and Austria. We went skiing in Austria and Switzerland, but we also went there to hike in summer. I've also been in Germany and the Netherlands, but mostly just for one or two days or to pass from Belgium to Austria. In third grade I went to Scotland for an Orienteering Championship (ISF). But I only got selected for that because there hardly was any competition in Belgium. I got lost a couple of times in Scotland:-p. And last year I went to England for 2 days with the riding club people to watch a cross country championship. That was my travelling history. So I've never been to the US, although I crossed the border once in a boat at the Niagara Falls in Canada :-p.

Any questions? Just ask.

Hi and Welcome. I also Have Belgian Roots (my father is Belgian and we still maintain a home about 30 mins from Liege). I'm however from the French speaking side of Belgium, I was brought up speaking English Primarily and French a very close second to it. Your Written English is far better than my written French!!
My dutch is limited to the ferry announcments and the very basics of "hello", "good bye" and "where is the bar"!
My German is a bit strange in that it is fairly basic for a lot of things but for some areas (Horses) it is quite advanced.

@faye: Thanks for your reaction!
My written English is quite good I think, except for the horse-related stuff, but I guess I will learn that through this forum. Listening and reading isn't really a problem either (I watch most movies and series without subtitles and I read English books), but speaking is :-p. I'm supposed to develop a British accent:-p.
I've learned some German too in high school, but I can't really speak or write it. Reading German is much easier for me.
I plan to go on an exchange program in my third year, hopefully to Ireland, the UK or Malta.

@Adam: thanks!
