newbie here living in Turkey

Hi there, its a first for me joining a horse forum, I am registered on a few forums, for Turkey where I live and for dogs...

My kids have been asking for a pony for over 2 years... please dont shoot me down... I have joined here for advice and information as I have just taken on a rescue pony from experienced xpats here who assure me he is ideal for kids etc etc.

I really wish I had more experience of horses, I ride very basically, and havent done the workings of a horse, ie tacking, shoeing etc etc

i have arranged for the pony to go to a friends farm where they own horses, one being a race horse, so he will live there for a while to we get used to him and him to us, and we get all the advice and help we need to look after him.

I am jumping in at the deep end for sure, that I know, but I would like to think I can take part in the forum and receive good help and advice from the people in the know.

I am looking forward to the new arrival to the family and do not underestimate the amount of hard work he will need.

He is around 3 or 4 years old, not gelded, ungelded (pardon my lack of horse terms), and my first question is, will it be ok to change his name?

Look forward to getting to know some of you and as I said, will probably have lots of questions or issues over the coming months/years..

He sure is cute! Congratulations on the new arrival.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you need! I'm sure there is someone on here somewhere who can help you with whatever you need.
And to answer your first..Yes, I think it would be perfectly fine to change his name. A new name for a new beginning!

Hi! Welcome to the horse forum!

It would definitely be ok to change his name. Bongo is a very cute name :]

Just a suggestion, maybe you should think about getting him gelded, it will make him a lot easier for you and your kids to handle and learn around, and make it easier for him to be around other horses.

Good luck with barbul/bongo!

welcome ma'am and enjoy the ride.

I would get him gelded, too.

A good cowboy always has a better horse at the end of the ride, a poor cowboy will be afoot reguardless of the horse.
