Talking Nice to meet all of you;)

I am completely new to equestrian sport, I have started to research endurance riding last year and I have come to the decision that it is both challenging and rewarding and I CAN'T wait to get started!

Here is the exciting part, I am looking for my first horse and I am asking everyone for their opinion in what to look for when buying your first horse, in the mean time I am getting horse riding lessons.

I am just sooooooo excited;)

Hope you all have a lovely day! any and all advise is welcome...

Thank you

Howdy form Texas! If you'll be doing endurance riding, I'd look for an Arabian or Arabian cross. At the end of the day when other breeds are sucking wind in their stalls, the Arabian will take a sip of water, look at you and say let's go! Tha's said in jest as I like all breeds and they each have their uses. Except for maybe minis. Joking, just joking!

Thanks a lot:) From what I heard so far I agree and think I will be looking for an Arabian or Arabian X, I am just worried that some of the people who deal with the selling of horses are not that honourable and will see me coming a mile away and try to sell me a horse that might have a medical condition or something that I would not be able to pick up because I just don't know that much, but I do have friends:) and hopefully together with the advise I receive I will be able to make a well informed decision and buy myself a fantastic horse;o)

I agree with teh Arabian. I would take lots of lessons first though as they can be quite spunky and usually to smart for there own good :P if its possible to take lessons on your horse when you buy him/her i very very VERY highly recomend it! i just bought my first horse 3 months ago and have been taking lessons with him (starting from LOTS of ground work and working my way upwards) i'v learned SO much in my lessons on my boy that i dont think i ever would have experienced in the lesson program on lesson horses (i had been takeing lessons for 13 years before i bought my boy). Plus the tactics im learning now to train my boy i'll use in the future! so its a win win situation. As for buying, if your able to bring a more knowlegable horse person with you it would help alot. Not only just so you don't get ripped off, but that way they can help you pick the right horse for you, your skill level and the level you intend to go :)

Welcome to the Forum!

Thank you everyone! I will defnitely take your advise and do lots of lessons first, so I can at least ride the horse I want to buy myself, I am just so excited I have had lessons and every time I go I just don't want to leave ha ha ha but helaas as I am not that fit yet I feel it the next day ha haha but I love it, I love that horses are so clever, some of them you can just give them a pen and I think they will write you a letter ha hahaha just joking, but I will take my friend who is giving me lessons, she should be able to help me out;) Thanks again and have a great day! and I will keep you all informed as I progress in finding my special perfect 4 legged companion;)
