Wanting a horse

I use to own a couple of quarter horses & 2 Haflingers were drove. My husband got colon cancer & could no longer put the hay in the loft. I guess we should have sold them. We could have used the $$ for medical bills. I wanted more control where they went & what happened to them. I contacted 3 local horse 4H groups & took interviews from parents, kids & the Leader. I had a contract drawn up so if they ever wanted to get rid of them they would come back to us. The kids who took our Quarter horse were 9 & 12. that was 15 years ago. The kids are out of college & still have the horses who are now 18 & 22. They are just pasture buddies for the younger horses the girls now have. I still get written updates & pictures. They got such good homes. The gentleman who got the Halflingers sold them with in a year moved out of state. I can only hope & pray they went to a good owner.
At present I am in Kidney Failure. I have dialysis 3 time a week for 3 1/2 hours each time. I long for the freedom my hores gave me. I have a lot to do before I get a horse. Fix fence, get the resident possum out of the barn. Find an honest hay source. My husband is healty & is willing to help load the hay & straw in the loft. I quit smoking & am putting that $$ aside for hay & purchase a horse. I hope to get one with in the next year if all goes well. I will need one that is calm & trafic safe. It might take a long time to get what I need but the wait is worth it. Mean while a friend is willing to let me come help with her horses. I look forward to hearing about your horses.

I hope you can have a horse again one day!

I just have two right now. With an honorary third. My two are named Sonny and Nick. The third horse in our pasture is named ZsaZsa and she belongs to the people up the road. They wanted a horse but didn't have the land and since we had more than enough...she came to live with us.

^^ This is Sonny, my 18 year old quarter horse gelding. I've had him for three years.

^^ This is Nick. We've had him for 3 months. This was taken a week after we brought him home. He's our little rescue horse challenge. He's skinny, but we've been, and are still, working on it. He's 7.

^^ This is ZsaZsa. She's 10.

Welcome to the HF! That's so great that your QHs went to a good home and that you were able to stay in touch after all these years.

Congrats on quitting smoking - that's a tough habit to break.

Hopefully you will soon have enough $ saved up to get another horse.

Welcome to the forum!

I hope you get to own horsies again :>

The sensitivity of the internet baffles me.
