Horses, Horses and MORE Horses

Well its mostly about the rescue right now since I don't really have my babies here. But since this is going to be a 3 yr thing I figure I may as well just do a journal thing for it! Haha

Anyways..........

So today was my second day volunteering at the horse rescue here on Oahu. Its the first equine rescue ever established for the islands.

Yesterday was pretty normal, I fed, groomed and mucked out the "petting zoo" animal pens, which includes 2 shetlands(dam and 2 yr old colt) 2 donkeys, a POA, one hog and about 10 goats.

One of the other volunteers offered to help me muck so while I was with the donkeys she went into the Shetlands pen, and forgot to clip the chain...needless to say the two houdinis broke out and I had to chase them both down. So after I got them back the barn manager (who was watching me) was apparently impressed with how I handled getting the shetlands back and calming down the other horses so she offered to let me work with her project mare *swoon* who is a 5 yr old appy mare...totally amazing horse just has some authority issues do to the previous owners abuse.
After that it calmed down and I got the other 18 horses fed and watered then locked up for the night.


Today was pretty much the same haha. I mucked out 10 stalls, 2 large pens, and three fields in under two hours (gotta be a record) then she let me take out two of the rehabs and work with them in the arena, and after watching that said that I was probably a god send (hehe god send) since most of her other volunteers are mostly military spouses that just want to help out, not much experience. So she said I would probably be taking on a bigger role as handler and trainer along with her son. And fed, watered etc. dang I didnt no how much I missed all this!

But BY FAR the best part about today was when she offered to let me ride her mare Honey, in a sorting competition in August! Winning haha. Im soooooooooo glad I finally started here. I gotta get my horse fix in

Haha yeah it was definitely entertaining! Little devils. Theyre very deceptive. And cocky. They just pranced around dodging us till Valeria could get a rope for me.

It's amazinhly true..the whole saying "you don't know what you got till its gone"....ell kinda haha. I DID know how much I missed my kids back home but dang. I've only been gone from the rescue for 3 days butim already chompin at the bit to go back haha. I have to go in early tomorrow to do the morning feed because Betina (barn manager) and the other saturday volunteer are taking a horse to a parade so its all meeeee. Haha.

Well 2 months! Haha im trying to go back august 1st through the 28th!

YEAH Ill definitely get pics of my buddies the donkeys and the houdinis! And hopefully some of the rescues too!

Ive been working on it. I have to get a work release first and their taking their time with it!
