I've never been good with keeping any sort of journal/diary thing, but i'll try it out and see how it goes.
So since Vega was getting a little unruly when I would lead and ride her, i've been doing a lot of groundwork with her. I believe I started last week, but i'll just start from today :)
I did the yo-yo game and the circle game and also lunged her. She is getting much better with backing up. I only have to go to phase 4 a couple times. She is also staying out of my personal space a lot better now too! With the circling game I can get her to walk, trot and canter all through voice command now. (something I was unable to do before hand)
She is very good about changing directions and hasn't kicked out in my direction in a while too!
Her friend, Harry, came in to the same arena and it was very helpful because not once did she care that there was another horse in there, or that he was going faster than she was. I was able to carry on like we were the only ones in there.
She now walks about 98% of the time when i'm leading her to and from the arenas. I'm so proud of her.
I also rode her for the first time today bitless! I thought she was going to take off with me and not listen, but she did fantastic! She listened to me well and just went along with everything I asked her to do (except walk, but we're working on that) She also stood still for me to mount! If you saw my video, you'll understand
I w/t/c her in both directions. She is more righty than lefty though, but doesn't give me much of a hassle . She does have a tendency to cross canter but I believe that's because she is unbalanced and by doing that she feels more balanced. I could be wrong though. We'll see after a few more weeks of training.
I bought a pessoa type lunging system that i'm going to try out over the next few days. I'm hoping that will teach her to accept the bit and to learn to engage her hindquarters more. As of right now, she'll gape and is rather heavy on the forehand.
I'm also going to try her western a few times and see how she adapts to it again. That might open up doors for showing her
I'll post more over the next few days ((hopefully))
