Good for you!!! Sounds like a great match and a horse that your daughter won't out-ride for a number of years. She really is a great looking, solid mare.

How's everything going with the mare? Has your daughter had lots of riding time in this week? Hope all is well!

Well, best of luck! You certainly have paid your dues looking for the right horse. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the hunt is almost over for you! I hope you post some pictures soon.

Hey there! How goes the horse hunt? Is your daughter getting ready for any upcoming shows? Our 4-H spring show is at the end of April and then we are planning to attend a couple of shows in May. Lily, our horse, isn't in stellar shape but better than she's been in prior springs so that's good! Anyway, just thought I'd say hi!

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention regarding the tack sale. If you are wanting to shop next year you and your daughter could volunteer and work the sale (or set-up) and then you are eligible for the pre-sale. We worked on Saturday - I took in consignments and my daughter was a "runner" so she took the consigned tack to it's assigned location. It was very fun to watch my daughter and other girls her age sort tack and giggle. She doesn't have any horsey friends at school so it was really fun for her to be around like-minded kids. The pre-sale is the night before the sale and what's really great is that they let the kids go in and shop for 20 minutes before any adults are allowed in. My daughter had a great time and when I got in I looked over what she had chosen and then we shopped together for a while. We really had a ball and are planning on doing it again next year. There was a short line to check out, but it was not a mad house at all while we were shopping. Just a thought.

Good on your daughter for staying on and making a couple more laps! Bummer about the horse - it's sad when you can see the potential of what could have been in a horse if it wasn't for poor training. Poor training leads to so many other issues that you have a lot of undoing before you can even get going in a good direction! At least you found out that this wasn't the one before spending too much time on him. We looked at one horse that the owner would not tighten up the cinch enough and sure enough - off I went! Like I said, I wasn't a very savvy shopper. That was almost 4 years ago and the horse is STILL for sale on craigslist!

Thank goodness for trial periods! I'm with you - I wouldn't buy a John Wayne horse for my daughter either. However, I wasn't nearly as savvy when I was shopping for a horse. Clueless about trial periods, not sure what to look for, etc.. All I knew is that I wanted good ground manners and a clear understanding of the word "whoa" within a very limited budget. I also didn't want a horse too green or too trained, as my daughter was only 6 when I was looking and she was almost 7 when we finally bought one. Boy, I sure did look at a lot of horses though! I really got discouraged at one point between dishonest sellers and spending time looking at horses that were just not right. But it all worked out and I learned a lot too. If I were to do it again I would have a much different approach but I'd still choose the same horse in the end. At least your daughter has a horse to ride in the meantime so you don't have to be in any rush. Hang in there!

Oh my!! You deserve an amazing horse after all of this. At lease neither you or your daughter got hurt. What made him jump - did he spook? Try not to get too discouraged, the right one is out there.

Daughter found herself a show bridle, show boots and a hunt coat. Mom found a spare rain sheet for daughters horse. Daughter is happy and Mom is broke.

Are you going to the 4-H tack sale? We worked it all day yesterday (Sat) taking in consignments - it was exhausting!! There were some really great deals coming in though, cheap cheap cheap! We also consigned a bunch of stuff so we'll need to go back tonight and pick up whatever is left over.

How is everything going with the new horse?

Glad to hear things are going so well. He sure looks sweet from the pictures you posted. Your daughter also looked like she was having fun - I hope he will be a keeper for you!
