FYI - here is an ad on the Sno. Co. 4-H website for a 15.1h paint:
Snickers is an 8 year old mare and super sweet!¬ She loves attention, and has great ground manners.¬ She runs to the gate when you call her, stuffs her nose in the halter, hauls great, bathes with ease and clips without a halter standing in her stall.¬ She is a smooth ride and has no spook out on the trails or other obstacles.¬ ¬ Snickers is very versatile and would be a perfect trail mount or project for a 4-Her who wants to compete in English, western and dressage performance disciplines.¬ ¬ I would not recommend her for jumping or gaming.¬ She is an easy keeper and has been eating grass hay with a supplement.¬

Asking only $750 for her because we don‚€™t have her papers (previous owner still has them, and I can get you in contact with them if you are interested). Snickers is due for a teeth float and requires a wedge with pads on her front feet at 7 week intervals. She will come with her waterproof winter turnout blanket.¬ A good home that will care for her is way more important to us than any dollar amount.

We had a gal come out and do massage work on our mare yesterday. Between her and the saddle fitter we learned more about our mares lameness than we did with the vet. She found some very tender areas that we are hopeful we can work out and make Lily more comfortable and balanced. Our trainer is almost as excited as we are! We're looking forward to seeing how she is after a couple more sessions. Our $500 mare is getting more expensive by the minute. A word of warning: once the daughter bonds with the horse you're stuck! Well worth it though!

I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes. Will they do a trial? I'm glad you decided not to rule out mares because there are a few really nice ones out there. You're really going about this the right way. When I was looking I really didn't know what I needed to look for and had no idea that we'd be as involved as we are. I was just looking for a child friendly horse to keep at grandmas. Grandma insisted it be an Arabian. Luckily we did find the perfect horse eventually, but if I knew then what I know now the shopping would have been a heck of a lot different!

Sounds like a red flag to me. I would guess that the lady wasn't willing to work with you because she had something to hide. Who knows, but it's certainly possible. Either way, you don't want to buy a truly lame horse.

You know, getting a new horse is so much fun, especially when there is a little girl involved, but the shopping part of it really sucks! Hang in there, I bet whatever horse you end up with will be well worth the weight!

Hey - not sure if this was the horse you were interested in before and they never got back to you but there was an ad recently of a very good looking gelding and at the top of the ad they apologized for those that they never got back to because they had some computer issues (or something like that). Anyway, I think the ad was for the horse in Monroe. Like I said I don't remember if this may have been one that you looked at and was not impressed with or if they didn't get back to you or neither and I just have a poor memory Could be worth looking at Craigslist.
