Thanks Cher! We are having a great time down here I love it! I've already asked my resort if I could fill out a job application =). A girl can dream right? Must be one of the most beautiful places on earth! We went diving today and saw squid, a barracuda, and a sea cucumber! Where did you stay while you were here? Eek! No, we haven't run into any thorns yet. Are they on the beach?

So happy for you guys on your new horse! Post pics! Maverick - great name!

Hi Cher, oh my it sounds like you guys had quite the time! How fortunate that You were able to.see the bad-mannered horse act out! I hope your palomino comes through! Isn't sunny a palomino? Will you go for the sweet TB if it doesn't work out? I have a soft spot for TBs! Did you try riding any of them or would this horse be strictly for your hubby?

I had quite an adventure yesterday.... Got bucked off of that Fresian cross. She wanted me OFF. Was not happy that i was asking her to work! I was fine for the first two bucks but by the third I lost my position and she got me! We did about 10 minutes of groundwork after that and when I got back on she was great - of course! My backside is killing me!! No matter though, I am finally on my vacation in the caribbean and enjoying some nice weather. We are going on that beach ride one tuesday so i will be sure to post some pics! =)

Let me know what happens with the palomino!

Lol! "Yes he would make a wonderful trail horse as long as you don't actually take him on trails."

What about a quarter horse? I feel like I have met some really great trail horses who were quarter horses.

Those prices sound pretty comparable to what we have in my area. How old are the horses you are looking at?

Well once you are ready I'm sure it will feel great to canter with him! =). That kind of stuff can be scary though so I totally understand. When I brought Shasta back from college she took off with me in the new arena and by the time I got her back down I was so rattled I started crying! I had owned her for 8 years that point! My problem was that I stopped taking lessons in college and was just trail riding and picked up some terrible habits. Once I got back into the swing of taking lessons my confidence picked back up. My point is that you will get there =).

Horse shopping sounds like fun! What are you guys looking for? Is the coast where all of the good horses are?

Yes that is Romeo on my avatar. He really is a pretty horse but just isn't the sharpest tool in the shed! So sweet though I'm sure I will end up buying him from my trainer someday.

Haha! Sunny and Cher - that's cute though! At my barn in college there was a woman named Bonnie and her horse was named clyde. I thought it was so clever!

Obstacles sound fun! Probably a good idea to keep sunny guessing what you are going to do, right? I have to change things up with Romeo often or else his attention starts wandering outside of what we are doing. How's he doing on the left lead canter?

Since I can't ride Romeo in the winter I have been working with Nikki and we are working on straightness and moving forward. Very different from OTTB Romeo!

Hey! Yes I rode yesterday and once again the evil tractor gave us problems. I even walked her up to it and let her check it out before I got on. Twenty minutes later she was worried about it again! Oy vey! But she did track up for us a bit so I'll take it! The bar is low..... How did your lesson go today? Was he a good boy? I bet just taking him for leisurely walks around the property is good for him!

By the way I don't think I have mentioned it before but my name is Suzanne, my horse's name is Shasta (surprise!) and the two horses I'm training who arent mine are Romeo (TB in avatar) and Nikki (Fresian cross). Thought I would throw it out there in case i mention one by name!

Yes that makes sense. Youre wrapping him around your inside leg right? I don't know anything about barrel racing either so that could totally be contributing to his speed. Is there a barrel racing section on this forum? Maybe someone could shed some light on how they are trained. Is he balanced at the trot? I've ridden horses that moved more quickly on one side because they were unbalanced and trying to catch themselves on that side.
