The saddles are by a French saddler, Malibaud (www.malibaud.com). As you no doubt noticed, they are essentially a McClellan, and we are mega-happy with them. In terms of weight they are amazing (6kg) and they fit our horses very nicely. They´re not a padded recliner seat for the rider, but they´re not uncomfortable either. They were about 850 euros each, rigging included but without stirrups. He did us a bit of a deal and added the fenders in for that and some spare rigging.

I´d have thought your old saddle would be perfect, if the tree suits the horse. The aeration via that central spaces is so important.

I just took a look at your facebook page. Wow! What an adventure. I wanted to ask about your saddles. Who is the maker and how much did they set you back? I am planning a trip on the Great Western Trail in a couple years. I have an old McClellan I am restoring. Been wondering whether it might be just the thing for the trip.
