- Wow! I hadn't heard of that! That really sucks. :(
Small squares of average quality grass hay are going for about $6-8/bale, and nicer quality grass mix or alfalfa mix hay is going for $10/bale. I stocked up last June, and got my good quality alfalfa hay for $6.50/bale. I was happy enough with that price, especially since it jumped up to $9/bale about 2 weeks after I contracted it.
Odd that you've had too much rain, and we've had too little! Could you send some of that moisture down here as well? lol! :)
- haha I'm in eastern Canada. We are lucky, hay prices are high for us but not nearly as high as other places. I still remember 10 years ago when we were getting squares for $2 a bale *sigh* We're around $5.50 shipped. Our hay is nothing to get excited over but its not horrible either. The problem is, we will get in 500 bales and only 300 will be useable and 200 of that 300 needs to be watered. Our hay has been SUPER dusty and mouldy because its been to wet for it to dry out before its baled then gets stored and turns to carp. We have had a lot of barn fires because of this.
- 600 lb round bale for $40?! Where! Where! I'm in Iowa and our CRP hay (aka, mostly crappy) round bales are going for about $120 here! Some people are out of money and feeding their horses corn stalk bales! Those you CAN get for $40 around here!
Ship some of that nice hay over here! :)
