Wow! I hadn't heard of that! That really sucks. :(
Small squares of average quality grass hay are going for about $6-8/bale, and nicer quality grass mix or alfalfa mix hay is going for $10/bale. I stocked up last June, and got my good quality alfalfa hay for $6.50/bale. I was happy enough with that price, especially since it jumped up to $9/bale about 2 weeks after I contracted it.
Odd that you've had too much rain, and we've had too little! Could you send some of that moisture down here as well? lol! :)

600 lb round bale for $40?! Where! Where! I'm in Iowa and our CRP hay (aka, mostly crappy) round bales are going for about $120 here! Some people are out of money and feeding their horses corn stalk bales! Those you CAN get for $40 around here!
Ship some of that nice hay over here! :)
