    I am not saying that "is" the issue I think this is a good "possibility" Its when thing change we find the holes. Its possible that the new horse has changed things and you are now seeing weak spots...

    One other thing that you could try is, when you are riding him, make him work really hard when he's by the mare. Then when you get away, say 20 feet, from the mare let him rest, and if he wants to go...
