Has your daughter ridden english before? Maybe you could borrow a pair of paddock boots for just a ride or two so she could see what she thinks. You never know, she may hate it and they you're off the hook! If she likes it and wants to do some english showing that could influence your horse purchase. My daughter prefers english but has only ridden western a handful of times. She would like to show on western day at a 4-H show when she is tall enough to fit the stirrups on our saddle. Once she rode one of the 4-H members mothers western pleasure show horse but it was a bit too slow for my daughter. She is used to our horse that has plenty of go so she was not amused with a horse that had plenty of slow!

My daughter would love to show English. Right now she's in a tough spot. Her feet are HUGE, but the boots are all too tall. She has a pair but doesn't like the way they fit and she hates paddock boots. The horse we lease is bred for reining/cow work and she'd LOVE to do that, but he's getting up there in age. She's still at the point that every ride is fun, even if it sucks. She knows what the ribbons mean, but doesn't seem to care much either way. Of course, she's been very successful this year both at fair and at home so it'll do her good to switch horses and be a little more challenged.

Anna would like to ride western but our saddle doesn't fit her quite yet (stirrup length) and her horse is not a western mover. As soon as she fits the saddle I'm sure she'll give it a try. Luckily she isn't too concerned about how she places! She's not very competitive by nature. I think that's why she loves dressage - she's competing against herself and has a specific pattern to focus on. It would be fun to meet up at a show next year!

My daughter rides primarily Western, but she's going to try English this year. She'd love to do reining but we don't have enough people up here interested to make it a class at fair.

We did a show at Black Raven last spring. It was a small show but lots of fun! My daughter rides English in 4-H and she showed at the 4-H performance shows and fair. I think we might try and go to a schooling show at Eagle Mtn. in Arlington over the winter. We have been to a couple of dressage schooling shows in Bridle Trails in Kirkland. She fell in love with dressage and really wants to do more. Personally I like the schooling shows because they are a lot less stressful! I'll keep you posted on our show schedule for next year. It's fun to meet another mom of a young rider in the area!

Hi! We're in Skagit County. We've gone down to one show at Black Raven, but we tend to stick to Skagit County shows. My daughter does trail shows at our barn, and we ride at Silver Quarters for most of our schooling shows. I'll try to remember to message you with dates when I get some. You do the same, since I am the contact person for our 4-H club!

I too have a 10 year old in 4-H. We are in Snohomish County - what area are you in? Maybe we'll meet up at a show some day!
