Hey, saddler. Do you know anythng about Wellep adjustable tree mechanisms from the late '90s? I bought a Freedman cutback saddle (Lane Fox) with a Wellep adjustable tree. I need to determine whether it's just seized or stuck from time and lack of movement, or whether it's broken. It's ebay
381442817586 and I got it for a song. Cleaned up real well.

I've read references to clean and grease these things. If I drop the panels, I expect I'd probably be able to access the moving parts. Is that correct? What oil or grease? I use sewing machine oil on slider adjustable stirrup bars.

Hello NS, I much admire your awareness raising and environmental education efforts, but it's such beat-your-head-against-the-wall territory unfortunately. Sending you best wishes!

When I googled custom stirrup leathers I was routed to some of your postings (the girl who had trouble finding them short enough). I have the opposite problem...I am 6' 3" and all legs. I currently have a pair of 72" stirrup leathers that are long enough but I hate them. They constantly stretch so they never feel like they are the same length, one hole is too long and the next is too short, and they just have a raw edge, no stitching, so I never really trust them. You sounded very knowledgeable about quality stirrup leather construction...can you help me?
