Exclamation Anyone have a Luxating Patella Surgery Done??

Hello!
New to this forum, was on another forum... but no one seems to be able to help me out.
Anyways April 1st my 5 year old mini mare had surgery to correct her lateral luxating patella. It has been two months and I'm at the point of regretting doing the surgery.
First few weeks she wouldn't use her leg. She hopped around on three legs. Now she uses her leg.. but she is just using the 'toe' to get around,
I am back to carting her, physical therapy and lunging- per Vet's orders.
I'm not seeing much improvement anymore. There is still hard swelling around the incision site.
Have any of you had this surgery? What is the recovery time? When did you see actual improvement?
Please I am desperately wanting to speak to someone who has been through this ordeal.
I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much in just two months?

THanks in advance

Yearling
It's been too many years ago for me to remember the exact medical terminology but if it's the surgery for locking stifles my mini had to have it on both sides. He hopped right up after he came out of the anesthetic and while he didn't do any romping around in his lot for the first few days he never had a problem walking. Like I said it's been a while so I don't remember the exact details of his recovery but I would remember if there had been issues. I was very happy with the surgery and he actually walked better after than he did before. He was locking up really bad.

Welcome Minigrl.

Very common problem in Minis. Have you asked on Li'l beginnings Mini Horse forum? There used to be several people there who had the op done. It is definitely a genetic problem and no Mini with the problem should ever be bred.

Wish we could have welcomed you with a happier situation, but please do let us know how your Mini goes along.
