Arrow to be gelded on Sunday...

So I made the appointment for Arrow to be gelded Sunday. I kind of feel bad lol I don't want a stallion though and I know he will be happier in the long run and so will I. Any tips or advise on anything I should do after he is gelded? I have never owned a horse that was gelded while in my care.. LOL I have only owned already gelded horses or mares... So anything I should look for or anything you think I should know please feel free to tell me :) And I will keep you updated.

Thanks again

Be sure to walk him alot so he doesn't get over swollen and keep fly spray handy if you still ahve them. Its getting cooler here in Missouri so we dont; have as many. And give him lots of love and carrots.

Watch for swelling, keep him moving, and have something like Wound Kote, or Blu Kote to spray on it to keep flies and infection at bay. It can be helpful to have him on penicillin for 5-7 days after as well; penicillin helps with swelling, fever and infection.

My gelding Outlaw who is now 2 1/2 was the first horse I ever had gelded on my farm. I knew nothing about it. Basically the vet said to keep him moving to reduce swelling in his hind legs. He will be stiff/sore for a few days after. I didn't have to give him any antibiotics, he just said to keep the flies out and you should have no problem. Outlaw did have some swelling, but I hosed his legs with cool water and made sure to keep him moving. We did fine and I'm sure you will too. :)
