Does anyone board their mini(s)?

I'd be interested in hearing your experience with boarding your mini. Ours is going to be at a small self care facility with mostly big horses but two minis. They do have private turnout but I noticed the other minis are always turned out with the big horses and do just fine. We're new to the mini world so I wanted to get some opinions/advice. Also, we live in the desert (CA) so there is only dry lot; what is recommended for feeding? The barn manager said all of the horses are on a 7 day psyllium rotation every month to prevent sand colic in addition to feed.

Sounds like a good place! We're dealing with some very bad sand colic at the moment with our minis so its great to hear that if you boarded there, your mini would get psyllium to prevent that. Its nasty stuff.

Turnout with larger horses- as long as they aren't particularely agressive- is absolutely fine. We keep all sixteen of our mares (three full sized horses and thirteen minis) together in a six acre drylot and feed them each a scoop of Purina® Miniature Horse & Pony pellets and mixture of 1/3 alfalfa and 2/3 grass hay. It seems to work really well for us. It really just depends on if your mini shows, carts, works, etc or not on what you feed, though.

be in your journey, but not all of
them are meant to stay till the end.

I keep my minis here at home, so not much help in the way of boarding questions...but it does sound like you have found a nice place!

I keep my six in a roomy, dry paddock. Fed hay twice a day, and during spring, summer, fall they get limited access to pasture, as it doesn't take much for them to founder.

Sounds like a great place!

I have three minis, and they live with the big horses and have free choice hay, and pasture up to 8 hrs a day in the summer.

Sounds like a nice place! I don't have any minis but there is a mini boarded at my barn. He is turned out with the big Thoroughbreds and a pony.
