What an adorable little guy! I'm leaning toward silver bay as well, but I could be wrong. Lol. I think the name Gimli is super cute. <3

His bay color should come back with no problems. A lot of bays, not just silvers, are a mousy grey color when you shave them.

He does look like a possible silver to me too. Did you ever see pics of him as a baby? Silvers are usually born a strange pewter colour with white eyelashes and often striped hoofs.

If you live in a cold area, I wouldn't shave any more of him, until it warms up in the spring. Minis always grow huge coats for the winter.

Minis also have more colours and strange combination colours, than any breed I know. Many owners confuse colours when describing them. Unless you actually test, most will not know just what their horse might be.

He's awfully cute. I love these little people.

I didn't get to see any baby pics I am almost done clipping him. He has a heavy blanket and is in a large stall with fluffy straw until spring (he gets turned out in a large roundpen for exercise). I am planning to do some local shows with him this winter and his hair was way too dirty, greasy, long, and matted to work with. He has a neck rug too. No worries

I did notice some blacks spots on him so far after shaving. May be he has Appy coloring under that fur as well

FeatheredFeet - Silver bays aren't typically born a pewter color. A lot of silver bays are born looking like flaxen sorrels/chestnuts or palominos.
