Miniature/Pony weight table

I though I would post this for educational purposes as I have found it very insightful and helpful lately!!!

Because many medications must be administered based on weight, it is important to determine his/her weight accurately to avoid the complications of over or under-dosing. This weight table was designed by veterinarians who recognized this problem. To use the table, take a standard tape measure and measure your horse or pony's girth. Then use the table to determine his/her weight. Miniature Horse Weight Table from World Equine Veterinary Review/Vol.3:No.3: '98

If your horse/pony's girth measures:
He/she weighs (in pounds)
30" 69.33#
31" 82.51#
32" 95.69#
33" 108.87#
34" 122.05#
35" 135.23#
36" 148.41#
37" 161.59#
38" 174.77#
39" 187.95#
40" 201.13#
41" 214.31#
42" 227.49#
43" 240.67#
44" 253.85#
45" 267.03#
46" 280.21#
47" 293.39#
48" 306.57#
49" 319.75#
50" 332.93#
51" 346.11#
52" 359.29#
53" 372.47#
54" 385.65#

55" 398.83#
56" 412.01#
57" 425.19#
58" 438.37#
59" 451.55#
60" 464.73#
If this is as accurate as they claim, I have been overdoing it with the de-wormer for years...Could have saved a lot of money!!!I will test the calculator later this month when I take my littlest one with a heart girth of 42" to the vet and see how accurate it is!

You know how to make a miniature horse even smaller? Leave them in the dryer a little longer!

It actually is fairly accurate! My mini, Sour's heart girth is 42" () admittedly a bit wide. We used this same 'caculator' to find her weight a few months ago and it gave us 227 pounds. A few weeks ago I had her officially weighed, and she was 219 (could be all of the work I've been having her do though ;D she really has to earn her oats now) which wasn't too far off. Definately close enough to use for worming and such!

They sure can bloat up fast, can't they? The little buggars. They're such hardy little things that it's almost (I repeat...almost) impossible to make one skinny, even on only some mid grade hay or something o.o

We have one mare, Saidie- who happens to be one of our lovely little broodies. Cutest little thing with petite bone structure and everything, but she looks pregnant all year! Its very hard for us to actually tell what size the baby is or locate it because she's so insanely round. She's as wide as she is tall...No, actually she's wider than she is tall! At 30", she's also 51" around, just like your girl. But the worst part? That's on a flake of hay a day, nothing else! O_o You'd swear she had thyroid problems or something.
