my sons new pony

Hi
This is my 4 year old sons new pony, his called him teddy, teddy is around 15-18 months old,

Congratulations!

He looks very sweet, and your son looks thrilled! Can hardly wait to see the look on my 4 year old son's face when he meets ours for the first time.

Im abit confused now, I was told the pony was 15-18 months old when I got him and still a colt, so today I went and felt him to see if he was ready to be castrated, but he had nothing there so I went to the previous owner (not the one I had him off) and he said he is only 6 months old if that! But looking at him he does look older than 6 months, at least 12 months plus. I have no paper work for him so anyone know how I can tell how old he is? I havent got a clue when I look at the teeth never been any good with that

I personally think he looks 8-10 months old, not 18. I was actually wondering about that when I first glanced at him. Is her registered? That would be an easy way to find his age. Otherwise, calling a vet would be a good idea. I'm sure they could give you an estimate. It's generally fairly easy to tell between a yearling and a weanling.

As for casteration, some horses don't drop untl they're two years old, or close to that. He could be a late bloomer. Either way, a vet check would probably be the best route. And the vet can casterate him without him having dropped, yet.

They sure are cute together, either way!

His not registered he came with no paperwork,
I've looked at his teeth today he has 4 on top and bottom, and just pushing another set in next to them, so I think you are right about his age thanks for your help and ill soon get the vet to come and casterate him

They look so cute together, that grin on your sons face says it all doesn't it?

I hope they enjoy growing up together, that is a wonderful bond.
