Neglected Mini Moved In With Us!!

Well, a few months after I started going out with my boyfriend, We were on the way to his house, when his mum slowed down to show me her mums miniature horse, Gemma, and how bad a condition she was in. Well.
I just about hit the ROOF (and so did him and his mum because she couldnt believe they let her get like that)!!! I honestly can not see how the people had left this beautiful little girl in a paddock for 3 years, with her foal halter on, that was much to small and making lines in her face. Her feet, teeth, vaccines, worming etc had never even been thought of, and she was HEAVILY obese, had thrush in all four hooves, no manners, NOTHING.
As soon as I saw her, I knew I had to do something about it, I couldnt leave such a beautiful girl out there in a paddock eating herself to death like that.

The next time I saw the owner, I had made a plan of attack.
Of course I had to be careful what I said in order to not make things worse for gemma.
So I asked how gemma was doing, she said "good." and we eventually got to me casually suggesting that my new horse was used to being around others and she was lonely.
To my relief, she fell into my trap, in saying that we could have gemma on our property to "keep my horse company."

Well, two weeks and two gobsmacked parents later, she stepped off the borrowed horse float into a new start at life on our farm, where she would be properly cared for.

And although I don't own her, I still call her mine, because the woman that owns her NEVER asks how she's going unless I say something about her first, Her husband, on the other hand, does ask how she's going, and if we need any money to get anything for her.

This is her the day she got to her new home

(notice halter imprints, and her size... she is NOT pregnant either)

We could pretty much use her back as a table, it was so flat, and the spine was an INDENT in her back, she had NO withers, and her Flank was flush with the rest of her... she was litterally a barrel with legs!

We started working with her:

Brand new halter that FITS!!! ^^

This is Now (about 3 months after we got her)

She was trying to eat my shoulder lol.

Info of Gemma:
+ 4 years old.

That is one chunky little horse eh! Love the coloring tho, and that blanket! Oh so cute!

Where did you get blankets for your mini? I would love to get one for my mini mare. I still need to get a measurement for her first tho but I would love to hear where you got yours from.

I got her cover from this website:
Equestrian Equipment and Accessories - Saddlery Warehouse

They are based in New Zealand where I live so I didnt order it over the net, I went into the shop itself lol. But in NZ, we measure from wither to base of tail (going along the back) which is the way our covers are fitted. I don't know if they would ship over sea's though if you wanted one, you would have to contact them probably.

That shop is where I get ALL my horse gear from :) they got some pretty cool stuff in there lol
