Wow! I'm so sad that so many didn't like this movie! It was a major psychological thriller that had me wondering some things. It was quite obvious the girl was being abused by her mother. The girl-on-girl sex scene was important as it WASN'T actually Mila's character that that happened with. She wasn't even in the apartment. Natalie's character imagined it as Mila's character to block out what her mother was doing to her. In the moments before that scene you see that the mother makes no remarks towards or about Mila's character being there. And as the sex starts, the mother is no longer banging at the door. ((Considering the mother character, she would not have stopped had her daughter been in the room having lesbian sex.))
Natalie's character obviously has a very fractured mind and takes on other people's personas to try to make sense of her inner issues. The suicide is not surprising. She played the swan, she was beautiful, she was perfect. For that moment in time, she was untouched. That's all she needed.
