Friendships in TV Shows and Films

I've noticed that friendships are completely underrated in the media. How many times has the best friend been pushed back the moment the love interest is introduced? Can we have a film or TV show where there's no love interest, or if there is, they don't come in between a friendship? I'd choose a loyal friend over a love interest anyday...

I agree. I've seen so many movies were a best friend is pushed away for a love interest or another person, then the person who pushed them away goes through complications, and they end up as best friends again. It doesnt work that way!! TV makes it seem like you can only have one good friend, and the minute a new friend comes along, you have to ditch the first one. People don't always push away their old friends. In tv friends are just one of those things that can be pushed around a lot and then everything just ends up fine in the end. Ugh.

Television and the movies tend to mimic real life.

A lot of young, immature people throw over their friends when they get an SO. Even people who are older and supposed to understand the value of friendship do it. Those people have never outgrown the selfish, 'it's all about me' attitude.

Instead of blaming the media, blame the people who think that type of attitude is acceptable.

If you want to see a movie about true non-SO love, watch Frozen.

You want the truth? You can't HANDLE the truth!

Sex and the City.

It's ridiculous, has ridiculous standards, but it has all the dynamics of love of friends, for friends and for men.

All four bring a different personality, and they all have their fall outs, issues and arguments... and when the inevitable man comes along, you get to see when the friends are shut out, how they react.. and when the break up happens, how they support and then fish slap the main character back to reality after months of moping.

That's what I like about it.

Want a drama where friendship features highly? Try Anne of Green Gables! ...the problem is, that kind of stuff is now thought of as old-fashioned and twee. People on the whole clearly prefer the kind of thing you are complaining about... social realism... what came first, the chicken or the egg? (i.e., does drama production follow a social trend towards people being shallow and behaving badly, or does the social trend ape the drama, or is it a bit of both?)
