There's a movie I've seen a couple times called "Running Free".. I think it came out around 2000. Basically what I would compare it to is a live action "Spirit" movie. I remember loving it when I was younger. Surprised that not as many people know of it. :)

I think Black Beauty (1994) was good, but in the sense that it brought the book to life more than any other "rendition". I had to stop the movie several times to visit the Kleenex box, it grabs your heart that much! I don't think I could handle watching it again.

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

Most horse movies are awful, unless you're a 12 y/o girl.

Running Free ranks right up there with the worst of them. Anthropomorphic drivel and talking animals make it completely cringe worthy, especially since it's live action.

Of course, all those 'Flicka' movies are almost as bad. At least The Black Stallion was MEANT to be a fantasy.

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken isn't too bad, and neither is Into The West.

You want the truth? You can't HANDLE the truth!

The Flicka movies were okay to me. One of the worst horse movies I've seen so far is Wildfire: The Arabian Heart

Miracle of the White Stallions. True story about how they were saved during WWII by US Army and the persistence of Alois Podhajsky, who was the director of the Spanish Riding School.

The Horse with the Flying Tail, about Nautical.

Dreamer.

But so many of them are just so full of inaccuracies, makes me want to stomp on them.

Whatever you do, do NOT watch A Pony Tale. It's a newer "horse movie" found it at my local Walmart. Not worth the money I spent on it at all.

Everything is aggravating the acting, the tack, the way they try to make it look interesting.

I wish I had seen the trailer before I bought it because I would never have gotten it. But I saw a horse movie while I was shopping and was of course drawn to it hehe.

OK, I saw King of the Wind. Yes, it's crummy as a movie. Yes, the book is so ingrained in me, probably any movie made of it would not live up to the book. But I did like that they actually used ARABIAN horses! Most horse movies, I keep count of the different horses used for the "star" horse.

I did......I don't know if we bought it or borrowed it from the library. Very cheesy because the horse can talk and the girl klonked the guy with a METAL horseshoe?!? Unrealistic there but probably a good movie to the younger viewers whowouldn't care if the movie was poorly put together. Although I found the money tricks very clever and funny!
