Mad Men

I do not ordinarily watch TV shows, or TV. But, at a friend's long time behest I watched a few episodes of a show called "Mad Men" on netflix. I found it rather interesting in-as-much as the "story line" is pretty ho-hum and boring (the life of ad business execs - which sounded extremely boring to me), but it uses the ad business to capture the "era" (50's/60's) that it is set in...which was pretty clever - I have to admit. I would not call it appropriate for "family viewing", and I wouldn't call it "great", but it is interesting. Since there is no way to verify whether the portrail of the time is accurate (they smoke and drink non-stop at work, for example), you kind of wonder how "inaccurate" it is....but it does make you stop and think about the "changes" in society in the past 50-60 years.

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

I was born in 1958, two years in time before the time of the that show's first episode. I watched all 5 seasons available on Netflix. I cannot say if the portrayal of the workplace is at all accurate, but the background imagery has all kinds of details that I remember from my childhood. Many of those things carried on until about 1969, when things started to change.

I think the execs. Of an add agency in Manhattan would have an extraordinary life, then and now.

It's a well crafted show, and your really get to know the characters. You should watch it all.
