Oh...My...Gosh!

I just ordered a bunch of books from Amazon, they were like $10 and looked like light romances. I'm a big reader and I love nice story lines where the Champion gets the girl, the good guy wins, and the endings are happy....

Anyway, I got for of these books in the mail yesterday. I was so excited! I love my books! Anyway. I grabbed the top one on the way to dinner, it was called "should have been a cowboy" and it was about this washed up bull rider and how he starts his life new, outside the rodeo... right? WRONG! We went to dinner and on the way home I started reading it. OH MY GOSH! By the second page they were having sex, and I do mean SEX... not love... SEX! I dropped it and pushed it away... it was so raunchy! I felt so dirty! Omigosh...

I am returning them tomorrow. Amazon is really good about that type of stuff. I'm putting them in a brown paper lunch bag and carrying them to the post office so people don't see the books I bought! I'm so embarrassed!!!

Farm, were all of them like that, or just the first one?

Stinks that they weren't what you thought you were getting.

I lurve fantasy and horror, but once got a book that was supposedly a 'fairy tale'. Pretty raunchy, and involved a bunch of S&M and rather lurid situations. That one went in the trash bin!

I'm no prude, but I'd rather not read about SEX, SEX, DIRTY, NASTY SEX, MORE SEX when I'm in the mood for an actual story.

Right, I'm not a prude either but yeah, sometimes it's just plain too much! I ordered like 10 books. I've been having a hard time finding books so I went on amazon, read what the books were about (the tiny synopsis) and dropped them in the bin. I think I spent $70. 4 of the 5 that came in yesterday were by the same author so those four are yeah, icky... They were all by the same author (5 total - one still hasn't arrived)

I hate that! How to ruin a good book. The story and the atmosphere can be told with out making it into raunchy descriptions with more detail than necessary.

That one chapter in the horse whisperer always made me wonder if a different author wrote that chapter. The rest of the book was good and heck, a good sex scene is always a nice thing but come on people.

That is the one thing I hate about buying books. It sounds good and then it isn't. Sigh.

Glad Amazon will take them back.

Curious, was there nothing in the reviews about that? Maybe you should write a review so others will know. It will help those who do not want that and those who do.

I get so excited when new books come so I can imagine your frustration! Good luck returning them. Hope you get some books you truly enjoy.

I think the Horse Whisperer was ok, also that part of the book. I found it somehow... beautiful.

Did you check if whole the book was all sex or if it was just that scene which started at 2nd page and perhaps one or two scenes more?

Don't be embarrassed. You didn't know the books were like that.

My issue with horse whisperer was that it did not fit the rest of the book. Not even slightly. And not just because it was a very intricately described sexual encounter. Because it just did not go with the rest of the book.

^^ Personally I think it did fit. At some deeper stage.

Have you tried Goodwill?

Our company used to have a small lending library. Was great as I love to read, no time to stop at the 'real' library and will not spend money on novels. Unfortunately when we moved to our new building a couple of months ago, the library was discontinued.

I was running errands a couple of weeks ago and on a whim stopped into Goodwill. I got 10 books for $1.50. I will donate them back when I am done and get some more!
