All my family and friends everytime a "horse movie" comes out everyone says go see this horse movie its so great. I keep telling them all ITS NOT A HORSE MOVIE its a people movie with horses in it. I have seen alot of the movies you all have talked about. War Horse no thank you. The horse whisperer was ok but at the beginning when the horse got hit by the truck I kept thinking get off your horse and lead both horses off the road dumb girl. Anyway no one like to watch a "horse movie" with me anyways. I do like the Snowy River movies with all the mistakes. Anyone know how they filmed "the fall" in the second snow river movie? I have heard a lot of ideas as to how but man it sure looks real.
There isn't a horse movie that I like because they're so bloody fake and lovey dovey and "I'll catch a wild mustang and she will love me and let me ride her the second day!"
Gawd, give me a break.
Wow! I'm finding out there are alot of horse movies I haven't seen. Also alot I don't plan on seeing. One " horse" movie I liked was called In Pursuit of Honor. It was a US Cavalry movie based on the armies transition from horse to mechanical. It was made by HBO I think. It was supposed to be based on a true story but I think it was debunked like Hidalgo was. Which by the way I liked for its entertainment value. I do the same thing with historical type movie. I just have to remind myself it is a movie and not a documentary .
Flicka and Flicka 2 are both terrible, but the worst was definitely King of the Wind. Dumbest movie ever...just look at the cover, it sums up the entire movie.
Best horse movie is Wild Hearts Can't be Broken, totally inspiring true story. I've watched it dozens of times :)
Oh, I forgot about The Long Shot, that movie was so dramatic and hallmark-y it made me want to tear my hair out. I turned it off after about 20 minutes. The woman literally left her car at home and rode her dressage horse everywhere, with her daughter riding behind her in the saddle of course....
I don't expect as much from my horse movies as you do, apparently, because I've loved most of the ones I saw. I don't expect it to accurately depict horses any more than I expected Bambi to accurately depict deer. It's mostly fluff, and a lot of its cheesy, but I love it that way. I appreciate a "feel good" movie no matter how unrealistic I know it is.
I will say I didn't care to watch National Velvet or Flicka again, as I found them boring, but it had nothing to do with the horses in particular, lol. Posted via Mobile Device
Flicka 2. Not there is a Flicka 3 I believe. Possibly a 4th one coming up soon.
This movie is becoming like the new 'Air Buddies'. Not to mentioned the people, actors, etc. were terrible! They rushed the scenes. It was your stupid, city girl who has to move to the country and has a hard time. And of course, falls in love with a country guy. To me that so typical.
But my favorite horse movie. The Buck Movie. Even though it wasn't in theaters, it was still amazing. And all real, no Disney girly things added. However I do have to agree, Spirit The Stallion Of The Cimmeron was also pretty good. (: Still watch it.
Oh, Oh! Another one I thought was pretty cute was 'Horse Crazy' the one when a big time show horse gets stolen and 3 kids want to catch a wild horse. I found it pretty fake but just adorable at the same time. Come on, who didn't want to catch a wild horse when they were little? Lol.
Oh dear another edit. I just got reminded. Another movie I didn't like, AT ALL, was the one movie about a girl and a 'insane' Friesian dressage horse. Again typical. Not to mention when the girl was doing her dressage test, she entered the ring and talked and said, "Lets do this!" I was waiting for one of the judges to say, "Annnnnd she's disqualified!" If I know my dressage right, the second you enter that ring your not allowed to saw a word, right?
(And if there is a dressage expert in here can someone please tell me why they aren't allowed to talk?)
So the story follows the line of a very spoiled girl who gets whatever she wants. So there is this other girl there who doesn't have a horse, so the stable's owner's daughter gets this new horse named Danny. The little girl who had no horse thought he was wonderful.
The spoiled girl couldn't do anything with him so they wanted to sell him. The BO decided to give the horse to the little girl who loved him. THEN, some time after she got Danny, she went to go ride him and she couldn't find him. She goes to her trainer and asked where Danny was. Her trainer said, "I'm sorry but he's missing." SHE SAID IT SO CASUALLY AND JUST STOOD THERE. If my horse was missing and my trainer said that and wasn't doing ANYTHING I'd be slapping him silly! I'd call the CIA the FBI!
Ugh another thing was at the end of the movie when the girl is done jumping her horse, the trainer said, "Oh no Danny is lame!" Then it shows that Danny is limping and then it cuts to the end of the movie and the last scene. It doesn't even say what was wrong with Danny! I got really mad LOL.
I go into most movies just for entertainment value. I think if one gets too hung up in the accuracy of the movie, you could ruin them all for yourself. Some however, make it impossible to enjoy because they are soooo far off the mark.
Of all the horse entertainment, the absolute worse for me wasn't a movie, it was a series called Wildfire. The idea of the show was fine but it was without a doubt the worst acting I have seen and the most blatant disregard for facts. Horses changing colors as they aged etc... Just really, really bad.
