How to improve Road to the Horse

I've started this thread to come up with ways to make next year's Road to the Horse better for the horse and the human.

I posted some ideas on the other thread regarding accessibility of food, parking, seating.....but the biggest thing I was amazed at was the fact that they made a big deal of increasing it to 3 days, as well as "for the good of the horse", yet they did not even start picking their horse until about 4 pm on saturday-like 1/2 way through. If they are going to add a day, I would so love them to use it to benefit the horses by perhaps making the selection on friday nite, and have a training session am and pm saturday with a significant rest in between....then train again on sunday am prior to the finals. I really think this would decrease the stress on the colt. It just seemed so much all at once for them. If you are not going to use that third day for something to better the actual competition, then don't have it. It was filled with lots of "fluff" and wasted time. All in my group (8 of us) felt like we could have come a day later and saved $$.

I like the Fri for shopping but not much else. LOL if you look at years past they did three sessions to start with the clincians said they needed bigger time blocks.

Parking is going to be a pain when you have 5000+ people in one place

Food needs to be inside the building along with clinicians boothes everything else outside LOL oh yeah the horse booths can stay inside but ya wanna shop go to the tent.

Shuttle buses would be nice as mentioned by Frank in the other thread

The guys I know who start colts tell me that somewhere between 1 1/2-2 hours per session is necessary. Less than that does no good, and it is up to the clinician to know when the horse has had enough and rest it. So add one more 90 min session, but maybe make something else on the challenge? I don't know. There were times it was like they were throwing everything at the poor colt all at once.

Not sure. This will be extremely difficult to beat. Plus, there were 8 of us, all with different interests, ( a mounted police trainer, our CC-like trainer, a hunter/jumper judge, and a few of us just normal folk....)so perhaps our next trip will be somewhere else. Perhaps the reining futurity, perhaps the Congress, a dude ranch, even a CC Clinic with our horses-not sure. I do think we would all love to see a womens version with Stacy, just not sure who is out there that could really compete with her.
I really enjoyed the shopping....

Maybe find an arena and do your own CC Clinic

We have an indoor, so that could be possible. Or invite Stacy.....
Half the fun will be all "meeting" and discussing it.....trail rides, girls nites, etc...this may take a while. Lol
