Looking for a home for a mare who really needs natural horsemanship

Hi there, my aunt recently passed away leaving 4 morgans. I am writing today about one who really needs a new home with someone who can do natural horsemanship with her.

Maynegate Angel Eyes is a really sweet 4 year old mare. She knows nothing. My aunt and uncle bought her as a yearling, and soon after my uncle's health failed. My aunt treated her horses as pets, but never really handled them. They were well fed, vetted, etc. but she was scared of the young ones so did nothing with them.

Now we have this 4 year old who is both totally uneducated and very frightened of just about everything. I have been working with her to try to get her HALTERED! She loves having me in the stall, nuzzles me, and has (after a long time in the stall) let me rub the halter all over her. But if I make a move to get it on - NOPE!

Today I went out and let her out through her small pen to the large one. She was petrified. She just wwanted back in her stall. Once I put an older mare out she would at least go out in her run with her.

I do not have the skill, time, or patience to work with her on a regular basis. I have been out of horses for many years and have no desire to have one again (I've suffered many injuries, and I'm sorry to say I've developed a fear)

She is lovely and has lovely bloodlines. I am the ONLY one in the family with any horse experience, and I know my cousins just want to get rid of her, not pay for any training. I have paid for the other 4 year old to go to training for a month, and get gelded, because he was a danger to the novices in the barn - but I can afford no more.

I hope someone might want to take her on. She is really, really sweet. I have contacted SO many people, Morgan lists, etc and can't get anyone to take these horses - I fear for their future.

Where is she located?

Wow! I really, really wish I had the money to take her in. She is a beauty. And I am sorry to hear of your aunt passing. It's times like this when I wish I could snatch such a wonderful horse like this up! She looks like she's got some potential....where are you located?

Waiting to hear where you are located-then will pass on to the morgan folks I know....

Have you contacted the breeder who has the stud? They are in Ohio......

Same question as above...where you are located, at least the state, would be really helpful.

She is in Crete, IL - a south suburb of Chicago.

Yes, I've contacted the breeder and stallion owner . . . No luck. My cousin's husband found one guy but he was going on about how he could "break her" and I know that that's just what would happen to this sweet girl - she'd be broken - for good. She needs love and respect, not a rough hand.

Thanks-I have contacted the morgan people I know locally to see if any of them can take another.......Also thanks for trying to do the right thing by her. What is happening to the rest of the horses? Just curious.

Here's the story on the rest of the horses:

Mindy is 31 years old. She just needs a nice pasture and run-in and we HOPE we have a lead on one close by . . . We should know in a day or so. She's in great shape for 31, a bit arthritic, but once she moves around she is ok. She was a great carriage horse in her time.

Penny is 19 - has PLENTY of life in her yet, but we'd be ok with a pasture for her too. She was trained to drive as a youngster, but has not done anything in years. Got her out yesterday, and was reminded that 19 is not old for a Morgan! (she has a rope on because she was so eager to get out she pulled it out of my hands! I got it off right after the video stopped) If anyone would want her and try to train her, they'd be welcome to her - I'd love to see her used, but given her age we'd be ok with a pasture life for her too.

Finally is Max. Max is a 4 year old who I moved to a trainer near Lansing, MI because he was a stallion with almost NO handling. He's a cool guy though - can-do attitude. We gelded him last week, and the trainer ( who uses a lot of natural horsemanship techniques) says he's already a better horse for it - poor guy was stuck in a stall/small paddock surrounded by 3 mares. Angie is my biggest concern right now, because we cannot move the older mares until she is gone because she will FLIP OUT if left alone. When she couldn't see her buddies (but could hear them) she was so panicked.

Certainly she will be difficult, at best, to move. Especially if she panics so, and is unhandled.

Man do I wish I were closer and had facilities for an untrained youngster, I would take either the gelding or the filly from ya! Best wishes, though, rehoming all of them...they are really really nice looking horses!!!
